Collection SummaryLaurie Love’s grandmother owned a shack, called Oo-r-u, on the Woronora River where this St George family spent their holidays in the 1930s and 1940s. Later, as a young married couple in 1959 Heather and Laurie Love moved to Burrawalla Road Caringbah, where they have lived ever since.BiographyLaurie was born on 10 February 1930 at Arncliffe. Heather was born on 24 December 1934 at Bexley.SynopsisLaurie recalls details such as travelling over the Georges River by train to Como, bringing in supplies and living conditions in the shack. He also notes the names of other riverside shacks, the people who owned these and the unemployed people camped nearby. He gives details of features of the river upstream from the shack as far as Freshwater (or the Needles as this is sometimes called). Heather and Laurie raised their three children in a fibro three-bedroom house in Caringbah, surrounded by other similar families. Heather managed well with the children and shopping in Caringbah without a car but found the lack of facilities for their daughter who has cerebral palsy challenging. Laurie was involved, as was the rest of the family, in the newly formed Elouera SLSC in the late 1960s when their son Gary joined Nippers. They have had a busy life in Caringbah supporting various community organisations and witnessing considerable changes in the immediate area, especially since the 1980s when villas began to be built.
