Collection SummaryThe dressing sheds were built in 1914 to accomodate the needs of women bathing at Cronulla Beach.HistoryBetween 1906 and 1908 public baths were regulated for the purpose of observing decency and propriety on suburban beaches. In 1910 it was decided to build a ladies dressing shed at the southern end of Cronulla Beach. The plan was to make them large and ornamental for an allocated cost of 1300 pounds. The architect was local Edward Vennard. The dressing shed were heavily used through the 1920s and 1930s. After the opening of the Sutherland to Cronulla railway in 1939 it was reported that long queues were forming to get into the dressing shed. Cronulla surf club included change rooms into its new building in 1940 replacing the need for the exisiting separate accommodaton. The Ladies Dresing shed was demolished some time later.
