His comments were at times poignant and he also recounted very amusing incidents. Ivan’s immediate heritage is Chinese even though he was born in Malaya (Malaysia from 1963). He was raised in a Chinese family but is now Western.BiographyWong Tuck Pooi was born on 14 April 1951 and grew up in Malaya and was educated in English. In 1969, after finishing Year 10 in Malaya, he followed his older brother Steven to Sydney and lived with his brother Fred and his family, where he adopted the name Ivan. Steven and Ivan lived in a garage and attended Liverpool Boys High, completing years 11 and 12. He went on to Sydney University to do an accountancy degree.
