Collection SummaryRebecca was a highly articulate, delightful and willing narrator. At the launch of the oral history project Rebecca was the first person to express interest in being interviewed. She explained that her childhood dream was to be an historian and she maintained her interest in history. Rebecca became a banker instead and she works as a banker in Sydney. She especially wanted to give her oral history because of her mixed identity; Rebecca is Malaysian Chinese. An additional short recording was made about the experiences of Rebecca’s mother. As the interview was recorded in the grounds of a school, sometimes there is background noise from school children.BiographyRebecca Wong was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on 27 September 1971. Her parents were both first-generation Malaysian Chinese; her grandparents left China for better opportunities. Rebecca grew up in a large Chinese community in Malaysia and identified herself as a Malaysian, but in effect she was Chinese because of her background. Rebecca and her husband met in Malaysia, and came to Australia on 14 september 2002, 3 days after they married.
