Collection SummaryJames was an engaging, delightful and willing narrator. He worked with an interpreter and also, at times, answered directly in English. James expressed some concerns about talking about the Chinese Cultural Revolution and his responses to anything to do with the Cultural Revolution during the interview were limited. His family have lived in Shanghai for a long time – His grandfather was in Shanghai when it became a British colony. James attended school in Shanghai and afterwards studied at Marine College. He trained to be a sailor; actually he was a highly qualified marine engineer. He sailed in China, North Korea, and Japan. In 1994, after his retirement, he moved to Australia, where his 2 sons lived, under a family reunion program.
