The Valuation of Land Act 1916 (Act No. 2 1916) provided for the appointment of a Valuer-General and for the establishment of the Department of Valuer-General to bring uniformity and a overall set of valuation criteria for land in New South Wales. When the Valuer General determined the valuations for a local government area, that authority adopted these valuations for rating purposes. Field books and maps were created by the Department to assist in this process. The maps produced were revised on a regular basis. Generally valuations are undertaken every three years. Dates of revision for each numbered map may vary.
