DescriptionOn a warm November day in 1984 an official opening was held at the Camellia Gardens on Yowie Bay for the impressive wrought iron gates which face out on to President Avenue. In this image an attentive audience listened to local resident Eric Utick as he spoke about his passion and voluntary work for the Gardens which were created as a 1970 bicentennial project to mark 200 years since the arrival of Lieutenant James Cook. Among the dignitaries present was then Shire President Councillor Kevin Skinner who officially opened the gates. Since August 1969 when the first planting was made the gardens have grown to seasonal displays of over 1500 kinds of camellias which rival many other collections around the world.Date1984Image TypePrintColour DepthColourImage AspectSquare
