AddBy: Hazel Paton15th Jul 2026 11:11AMJohn Paton Snr was born at Coaltown of Balgonie, Markinch, Fifeshire, Scotland on 28 Nov 1920. He met and married Harriett Hawkins in London and they were married at St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, London on 3 July 1841. They had 14 children, two of whom died in infancy in England.
The Patons came to Australia as settlers on the "Euphrates", arriving at Botany Bay on 5 August 1855. They were pioneers in the Maitland and Singleton areas and Singleton Historical Museum has many photographs and memorabilia of the family.
John Paton Snr died at his home in 10 Charles Street, Enmore on 20 April 1909. He was survived by his wife Harriett and twelve children.
