Collection SummaryOpening of the Sutherland to Cronulla Railway, 16 December 1939DescriptionOn the 16th December 1939 to electric raiway line was opened between Sutherland to Cronulla. Although a railway line had serviced the Sutherland Shire to Sutherland from 1886 the only means of transportation to Cronulla had been by horse bus, steam tram, motor car or bus. It was expected that huge crowds of visitors would come to Cronulla to swim as it became the only beach served directly by a railway line.
