Collection SummaryTed Boyle was a well known name in the Sutherland township, running the Railway Hotel (now Boyle's Hotel) in Boyle St. Sutherland.BiographyEdgar 'Ted' Boyle was born in London England in 1868. After travelling widely Edgar immigrated to Australia in 1890. He worked for a time at the Tattersall's club in Sydney. Here he learned the hotel business. He married Hannah Galvin in 1891. They had 4 children. Ted was a well known name in the Sutherland township. He ran the pub originally known as the Railway Hotel once owned by Katherine Kitt. After the hotel was remodelled in 1936 it was renamed Boyle's Hotel. Under his management the hotel became very focused on supporting local sports including bicycling. Many races were started from the pub. He was also a councillor of Sutherland Shire serving one term as deputy president. In recognition of his service to the community Station Street where the hotel was located was renamed Boyle Street. He died in 1942.
