He moved to Sutherland Shire and became involved in the council, elected as councillor during the years 1907 to 1931. He served during some of this period as both deputy and shire president. He did not stand after 1931. He was best known in the shire for running a boat letting business on the Woronora River, a coach line which included a run from Sutherland to Yowie Bay. He established a grocery store in East Parade Sutherland. He and his wife Jessie had 3 sons and 1 daughter. He was a foundation member of the Sutherland Masonic Lodge and was at one time Chairman of the Woronora Cemetery Trust. He died in 1942 aged 64.
