Charles' father was a drover and had travelled extensively throughout New South Wales. Charles and Elizabeth settled in Sutherland in the late 1880s. They built a house in the middle of the township of Sutherland where they planted an orchard. The construction of the railway line south created business opportunities and Charles began supplying meat to the railway workers, opening his butcher shop in Sutherland. Charles H Stapleton died in 1930.
