HistoryAlfords Point was supposedly named for original land grantee John Alford. However there does not appear to be any tangible connection with the geographical location of the grant or occupation of land by this person and family and the present day suburb boundaries. The Alfords did acquire land which became the suburb of Sandy Point. The land which became the suburb of Alfords Point is bounded on one side by the Georges River. As part of the Menai District it was not settled very early due to poor access and because it was not very arable land. It was included in the town planning of the 1970s to become a planned centre. Settlement started at the same time as the bridge at Alfords Point crossing Georges River was opened in 1973.
