HistoryLilli Pilli is located on the northern shore of Port Hacking. It is served by Lilli Pilli Point Road which runs off the main road access Port Hacking Road. The area was once part of the estate of local pioneer Thomas Holt who acquired land in the 1860s which later became what is now known as Sutherland Shire. Port Hacking Road was surveyed in 1865. In 1868 a report written about the Holt Sutherland Estate referred to this part of the estate as comprising a point which was named Lilli Pilly later Lilli Pilli. The first subdivision of the Land Company was in 1891. In the early years of settlement the historic house "Beckton" was built by Thomas Bush when he acquired a leasehold in 1899. Other historic properties were also built from this time primarily as weekenders. A ferry service from Cronulla to Audley which commenced in 1909 docked at Lilli Pilli to take tourists visiting the area which included the national park for its natural beauty. From the early twenties the waterway near Lilli Pilli served as a place for regattas and speed boat races. A clubhouse was established in 1928 by the Port Hacking Rowing and Motor Boat Club and was in use there until 1936. Lilli Pilli baths were established after 1930 and became and continue to be a popular place for locals to swim. The suburb is mostly residential now.
