Article TitleERNEST NISBET PRESTON (13) - About 5.30 p.m. on the 24th August, 1927, a party consisting of Miss Kemp, Ernest Preston, Alan Preston, and Walter Bower, were about to return from a visit to Lake Engadine (a disused pit full of water) in National Park. The boy Alan was standing on the edge of a steep bank, some distance from the others, the formation being of a sandy nature, gave way beneath him and he fell into the water, about 10 feet deep. Earnest, who saw his brother fall into the water, jumped in fully clothed and swam to his assistance and brought him to the bank. Miss Kemp endeavoured to assist the two boys out of the water, but unfortunately the bank gave way and she was thrown headlong into the water. The boy Ernest then got hold of Miss Kemp and while assisting her to get out, the bank gave way and they fell into the water a second time. They were assisted on to the bank by Walter Bower. Neither Miss Kemp of Alan Preston are able to swim and Ernest only slightly. (Awarded Bronze Medal and Certificate of Merit)
