At Oyster Bay a fire burnt the bush on the foreshores of the bay for a distance of two miles and one cottage was burnt to the ground. Several cottages were also destroyed by fire near Como. Bush fires raged for four miles from Careel Bay to the South West headland. D.J. Keen's store at Lilli Pilli had the roof blown off and dropped into the creek 300 yards away. Cars took refuge in the creek near Wattamolla, National Park, while the bush blazed fiercely, cutting off the road to Audley.
